On the surface, a digital whiteboard screen and videoconference that aims to inspire teamwork in the workplace will not excite many of you. And still, offer Microsoft the accessories to make the Surface Hub 2 smart screen that was announced on Tuesday look really exciting, achieved through a promotional video backed by a dramatic soundtrack.

Companies can use this computer in the conference room to make presentations, perform remote videoconferences and collaborate on documents, drawings and others.

Some of you will remember the original Windows 10 based Surface Hub 4K, which was announced in early 2015 and shipped more than a year later. It costs north of twenty thousand, and came in two sizes, 55 inches and 84 inches. Google soon followed that year with a rival 55-inch digital slate with wheels called Jamboard, which cost around $ 5,000.

Microsoft has had some success with Surface Hub. He says he has sold the screen to more than 5,000 customers in 25 markets, and more than half of the Fortune 100 companies have bought one.

The company has not yet revealed much information about the new models, and does not say how much it will cost when it goes on sale next year. In 2018, Microsoft is testing Surface Hub 2 with select business partners.

This is what we know so far:

The new screen will have a resolution of 4K +. What it means in this context is not clear.

With a multi-touch screen measuring 50.5 inches, Surface Hub 2 will be smaller than its predecessors, although it can also align four of them side by side, with each panel showing different content (watch the video to see how that looks). For that matter, more than one can log in with their own Microsoft user accounts at once, even with a fingerprint reader.

Turn the screen so that it is in portrait or landscape mode; 4K cameras rotate with the device.

Surface Hub 2 has built-in speakers and far-field microphone arrangements that will presumably allow you to issue voice commands from the other side of the room. It has a standard Surface 3 × 2 aspect ratio.

As expected, you can access the cloud using Surface Hub 2, or use it with several products and services: Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Whiteboard (free-form digital canvas), Office 365 and Windows 10. It is compatible with the use of Surface Ball Pen .

Microsoft is also partnering with Steelcase on rolling stands and mounts to make Surface Hub 2 portable.

Surface Hub 2 seems very promising. You still do not know how excited you can become with one at your workplace.
